In a small way I'm disappointed. I guess I was a little curious as to what exactly would happen if it took over millions of computers. Curious to see what it wanted to do, if it had a purpose. If the person who came up with it had a master plan; was patient enough to wait years for the payoff like Kevin Spacey in Se7en.
As I drove to work this morning traffic lights were out. Then when I got to work I couldn't connect to the internet. I didn't get scared, I knew it was nothing out of the ordinary, but there was a kind of nervous laughter. Could it be real?
I guess I just like to experience history. When history hits you it doesn't really have an impact. It's only later when you have read your 100th article about it, seen documentaries about it, heard important figures speak about it, when it becomes ‘a turning point in history' that we really feel its impact. It becomes about feeling anything, being a part of something "you can tell your grandkids ‘I was there and boy was it a big deal.'" Basic and human. What is different about most turning points (like 9/11, Kennedy assassination), other than afdw being more silly than tragic, is that no one could see those coming. This worm had a build-up like a film. Where most people don't believe it's real except for one guy and his beautiful love-interest. Then suddenly everyone believes it's real and they trust the protagonist to save the day. It sure would have made things interesting. Maybe something is yet to come...I guess "Sham-wow guy beats hooker" will have to do for now.
