Jun 07 2009 | Identity Theft Worse for WomenPosted by Shane Gross in Identity Theft |
According to a study from Affinion Security Center, women pay more for identity theft.
61% of men get away with losing no money, but only 53% of women have the same fortune. And 17% of women have paid over $1,000.00 due to identity theft, while only 10% of men have.
To make matters worse, 72% of cases you have no idea who stole your identity. Most of the time it's your friend (26.5%) and next most common is through the internet (21.6%), followed by lost or stolen wallets and then mail fraud.
Just thought this was interesting and wanted to pass it along. I have a few theories as to why this is, but it's guess work. Why do you think this is? Women, perhaps you could shed some light?
