Do you own/operate an online shopping website? Have you ever wondered what kinds of things shoppers look for before they decide to buy something on your site? If you answered 'yes' to those questions, this article is for you.
If you follow this space regularly, you will remember that I talked about a report that the United Kingdom's Office of Fair Trading released. "Findings from consumer surveys on Internet Shopping" is full of information that online retailers should pay attention to. However, here is some of the most useful information in that entire report.
The survey found that these are the most common elements that online shoppers look for when deciding whether or not to buy from an online retailer. The number is the percentage of people who report that they 'always' look for the element.
Customer Reviews of the Website - 48%
Processes if Things Go Wrong - 42%
Code of Practice - 42%
Terms and Conditions - 32%
Contact Email Address - 27%
Contact Telephone Number - 27%
Country the Business is Based - 25%
Name and Address of the Supplier - 23%
Interestingly enough, all of these elements point towards a huge word in online marketing - trust. What other kinds of indicators do you look for on an online shopping site to determine whether or not you can trust the owners?
