I used to be so diligent.
Phonebusters would release their statistics for the previous month in identity theft and I would be right on it, frantically typing away in an effort to share the latest news with all of our readers. However, the last two months have seen a dramatic shift in my posting habits. Last month, I didn't write anything until the 20th and this month, I'm making my post on the 18th.
In my defense, some exciting things have been going on in World Swipe Headquarters. From truly epic birthday pranks, to exciting developments in our product (and support) offerings, we have been very busy.
Excuses aside, August 2009 was a bad month in identity theft. 1,468 people reported being defrauded out of $1,056,880.49. So far in 2009, 9,339 people have been defrauded out of a shocking $7,525,463.16! With four months left in 2009, we are only just over two million dollars away from the total amount stolen in 2008.
